Frank really loves milk. Frank likes to drink one pint of milk every
single day. One day Frank goes to the
grocery store and buys one gallon of milk.
When he arrives home and prepares to place the gallon of milk in the refrigerator
he discovers that the refrigerator has been padlocked shut. Frank decides to hold on to his gallon of
milk for a little while and see if whoever has locked the refrigerator will
return to unlock it. After waiting a
while he returns to find that the refrigerator is still locked. Not wanting to waste the milk Frank drinks
the entire gallon.
The next day the same scenario plays out. Frank returns with his newly purchased gallon of milk to find that the refrigerator is locked and in desperation drinks the entire gallon to avoid wasting the milk. This continues for one week. The second week Frank purchases only a half gallon of milk in the event he is unable to place the milk in the refrigerator he will not be forced to drink an entire gallon. He arrives home to find the refrigerator in the same condition and eventually drinks the entire half gallon of milk. This continues for the remainder of the week. On the third week Frank reduces his milk purchase to only one quart and as has happened the previous two weeks, he ends up drinking one quart of milk each day of the third week.
On the fourth week Frank has decided to only purchase the single pint of milk that he truly enjoys daily. As he no longer requires storing the milk he no longer investigates the condition of the refrigerator. As each week progresses Frank finds that he does not enjoy the pint of milk as he had previously since he has had to visit the grocery store daily to obtain his daily ration. As time passes Frank is no longer concerned with the condition of the refrigerator nor does he have the same love for milk.
